You are spot-on regarding the threat that Flynn and his allies pose and that they are acting for Putin. As to what their plan is, we shouldn't rule out anything--including use of violence to prevent/delay Trump's criminal trials, and/or to derail the next election. False flag attacks could well be a part of that.

Flynn announcing that is by far the biggest threat to the US that he has made directly. It’s also clearly desperation from a man knowing that this year is his last shot to deliver on whatever promises he made to his bosses.
