About this Whole Monkeypox Thing

11 countries and two major US cities now

Someone in the government, preferably the President, needs to address this issue ASAP. The response so far is unacceptable. We apparently have it in New York City now.

All told, this thing has showed up simultaneously in eleven countries. WHO says this is “atypical.” No shit, WHO.

So far they can find no link between the cases.

The only known natural vector for this disease is African rodents. The only other cases in the US were people who went to Nigeria or bought infected African prairie dogs as pets.

As I mentioned a few days ago, monkeypox can be weaponized into a biological weapons agent that the Russians are known to possess.

There is no precedent for a distributed worldwide monkeypox outbreak. It comes from African rodents, that’s it. So, it seems clear that since none of the subjects went to Africa and presumably the first question they were asked is if they were in contact with African rodents, we have a novel vector of transmission at work.

Given a widely distributed outbreak using some novel vector — while Putin is trying to win a war in Europe and has been spreading disinformation about “biolabs” for months — Occam’s Razor seems to be that this is biological terrorism. The White House even warned it could happen.

Someone in power needs to tell us that they are taking this seriously, because right now it sure doesn’t seem like it. They need to be honest with us and tell us: what do they know, and what don’t they know? You know, right now.

Again, I stress that this is not easily transmissible between humans so it’s unlikely to be some sort of epidemic. We should not panic about this. But the easiest way for the government to cause a panic is to stay silent about a serious problem.
