Trump’s proposal for Gaza is a signal to Crusaders that pogroms are back
At a news conference last night with Bibi Netanyahu, the President of the United States proposed that the military will “take over the Gaza Strip. And we will do a job with it too. We’ll own it.”
Netanyahu, the war criminal who let 10/7 happen, had nothing but praise for this “bold plan” to turn Gaza into “the Riviera of the Middle East.”
1.8 million Palestinians live in Gaza. Trump says they will “relocate” to neighboring countries. In other words, he wants America to commit war crimes, to ethnically cleanse Muslims. Colonialism, and pogroms, are back on the menu.
Obviously, Trump sees a real estate deal. He is a dumb puppet of the people around him who have convinced him that he can make billions turning Gaza into a beach town and strip mall. He sees the US Armed Forces as his personal security force which will protect his “investments.”
However, behind this stomach-churning idea is something even darker, much older, and more difficult to dismiss. Trump’s proposal is a handout to the christofascist theocrats who drive much of Trump’s agenda. This is a new Crusade.
Pete Hegseth, the drunk rapist Fox News host who was confirmed as Secretary of Defense, had no qualifications for the job except one thing. He believes he is a literal Crusader, that he his fighting a millennium-long holy war. The last words of his opening statement at his confirmation were a rephrase of the Crusaders chant “Deus Vult!”
“May His will be done” or “God wills it” is the literal translation of the tattoo on Pete Hegseth’s bicep. His book was titled “American Crusade.” It has been widely reported that Hegseth, chanted “Kill all Muslims!” while drunk at a party. And he wants to “Build Israel Great Again.”
Pete Hegseth is just a willing pawn in a very long game, an Abrahamic holy war over interpretations of the same book, ancient myths that have been driving mass murder, pogroms and suffering for millennia.
While it’s unclear how much Trump understands this historical context, our adversaries certainly do. Regardless of whether, and to what extent, Trump follows through on his genocidal idea, the enemies of America got the message, loud and clear. America is on a Crusade.
Trump’s bluster about “not getting into any wars” and “bringing peace to the Middle East” were, shockingly, lies. Netanyahu’s war crimes in Gaza were not about getting rid of Hamas, they were about getting rid of Muslims.
The United States essentially declared war on Islam, on 1.5 billion people. We have taken a side in a holy war, and the ramifications will be deadly. Expect terrorism to increase at home and abroad, and for this regime to use it as an excuse to escalate.
After withdrawing from projecting benevolent power abroad by destroying USAID, which provided assistance for 130 countries, we have now made our position clear.
America is not, if it ever was, a “shining city on a hill.” America is a predator now.
