American Mindf*ck: The Thinkin Project

This is a time capsule of what this work is like

Backstory

Just before New Years 2020, a week before 1/6, I had made so many friends on Twitter that I wanted to organize. So I started a volunteer group called “The Thinkin Project” (an obvious nod to Lincoln Project but no actual relationship at all.) Within a week or so we had 500 people on my Discord server and it was getting too big so I capped the growth.

There were two goals: 1) Use our researchers and disinformation experts to inform people about threats, 2) Develop expert information about undue influence (aka brainwashing) to share with friends and family of cult members. No counseling or direct contact with victims, just educational materials from experts and information that already exists. The idea was that in order to help tens of millions of people suffering undue influence help themselves, we need to get everyone involved — especially friends and family of victims.

What started as an amazing group of people trying to do good, turned into a painful lesson on how infiltration and coordinated harassment works. There were people that got close to me and others called “both sides ops” that were just there to cause chaos and trauma. They did their jobs well.

Matt Donovan (aka “Magic Window,” “Politics of Time” and dozens of sock puppets) and “Nicole Chenelle” were simultaneously “helping” me and my group, and separating me from my friends, working with my trolls, causing divisions, using anonymous accounts to harass us, and ultimately breaking the group apart.

I had set up a GoFundMe, which ironically had an image by Matt Donovan as the cover art. The fundraiser barely got started when everything really fell apart. I had already stepped down and never had access to any money — and every dime went back to the donors. Zero money ever went in my pocket and none of it ever would have. We had a good plan and a budget, but it was sabotaged.

On the outside of the group, trolling and infiltrating 24/7 and coordinating with Matt and Nicole were Fredrick Brennan, Mike Rothschild, KassandraSeven aka Sue, Satanic Sorcerer for hire Jason Miller, psychotic single purpose hate account “Jan Bobrowicz,” and almost everyone else who continues to attack me and my projects now.

Matt and Nicole stole my Discord server with an incredible amount of valuable research and information — apparently lost forever because they wanted to destroy the evidence of what they did. They also gave the Twitter handle to Satanic Sorcerer Jason Miller who is now defaming me 12 hours a day — and branching out to Vimeo comments.

Right after this video was shot, I found out a hit piece was coming out on me by the stenographer for my trolls David Gilbert at Vice News which starred Mike Rothschild and “anonymous sources.” It was heartbreaking and absolutely 100% false. At the time, I had a New York Times profile being written, a 60 Minutes interview, an NPR interview, and many more media opportunities. But I did what I thought was the best thing for the group and stepped down as leader. I handed it off to people I trusted hoping to pull the controversy to myself. That was a mistake.

I ended up with a damaged reputation in the press after doing what I thought was the right thing and the people I trusted turned out to be sociopaths who just wanted to cause pain. So I spent the next year rebuilding on Twitter and got a large amount of influence by continuing to provide valuable information and commentary.

Then, as you know, they came after me again, even more viciously a few months ago, and got me permanently banned — three times, for literally nothing at all. The same exact people that destroyed my volunteer group a year ago. As you can imagine, it’s hard for me to watch this but I think it’s important to be open about the effect this kind of harmful activity causes.

Most importantly, this describes what still needs to be done — to help the tens of millions of victims of QAnon and related cults, to recognize their humanity and help them out of the alternate reality they’re trapped in.
