Hello friends. Happy Sunday!

I know I write about a lot of extremely serious issues. I realize it can be a grind to try and keep up with it all but as a reminder, having fun is allowed. I wrote about why Gavin Newsom’s Twitter accounts are so effective, so I wanted to share a few examples of how I’m trying to help out.

Newsom’s Press office account sent out a series of graphics in the style of a MAGA troll account—except the facts are completely accurate—to show the hypocrisy of politicians sending National Guard and federal agents into blue states, when their states have more crime. For each one, I just took it one step further, and in all-caps Trump-style nominated Newsom to be Governor with a corny AI image to go with it.

Louisiana: “HE WILL MAKE EVERY DAY MARDI GRAS AGAIN”

Florida: “REPLACE RANDO DESANTIS”

Texas: “TAKE CONTROL OF THE FAILING STATE OF TEXAS FROM KEN PAXTON AND HIS SPOKESPERSON GREG ABBOTT”

These tweets got very high engagement because they break the frame that people who want to keep democracy always have to retreat. It is, of course, a fantasy that Newsom would be governor of some other state, but it’s fun to think about truly and irrevocably turning the tables.

As a final example, the DHS and ICE accounts continue to be shining examples of a democracy gone horribly wrong. They posted a Fox video of washed up former Superman Dean Cain training to be an ICE officer.

I responded with an updated video which I’m including here for illustrative purposes, but I warn you it is extremely juvenile, as designed. Whether or not you approve of this message, as a reminder, mocking fascists is a patriotic duty.

Zoom today at Noon PST / 3PM ET to discuss Schrödinger’s Locke, Gavin’s Tweets, Why Trump Sent Warships to Venezuela, or anything else that’s on your mind. It’s an open discussion with a smart community of supportive, pro-democracy folks. No pressure to talk, but questions and comments are always welcome. Details below. Hope to see you!
