Five years ago, I watched in horror as the events of January 6th played out exactly as predicted. I had been watching Mike Flynn (who later sued me) and his QAnon network, which telegraphed the plan.

A half-decade later, after a gut-wrenching series of systemic failures, the federal government is tweeting out QAnon memes from its official accounts: “Patriots in control” is a common QAnon slogan.

The insurrection never stopped; it just moved into the White House, again.

Here is the official White House account of January 6th released today: a perverse, disgraceful mirror of the actual facts—essentially the QAnon version of events.

The undeniable fact is that the President of the United States is demented—both morally and clinically—and the federal government is mirroring his psychological collapse. That’s why we invaded Venezuela, with no plan whatsoever for how to exit. It’s why we’re threatening Colombia, Greenland, Iran, Canada, Cuba and Mexico as our next targets. And it’s why every time Trump speaks, he gets worse.

Below is a transcript of Donald Trump speaking to the GOP House Caucus retreat at the “Trump Kennedy Center” today, the fifth anniversary of January 6th.

“And my wife, by the way, my wife hates when I do this. She said, you know, she’s a very classy person. Right. She said, it’s so unpresidential. He said, but I did become president. She, somebody, she hates what I dance. I said, everybody wants me to dance. Darling, it’s not presidential. She actually said, could you imagine FDR dancing? She said that to me. And I said, there’s a long history that perhaps she doesn’t know because he was an elegant fellow, even as a Democrat, right? He was the attack by Japan. You know, he was quite elegant. But he wouldn’t be doing this. But, but nor would too many others, but she says, darling, please, the weightlifting is terrible. And I have to say this, the dancing they really like. She said, they don’t like it. They’re just being nice to you. I said, that’s not right. The place goes crazy. They’re screaming, dance. Please, but the weightlifting, but no, they go, get your help. And you see, I want to be more, but I have somebody watching. I want to be more effusive. I want to really, yeah. But she gets it. I dropped the thing, walks off the stage crying, her mother’s crying, her father’s going, “God get up.” He said, “Have you lifted before a little bit?” And he walks up, being, he could have gone, ding, ding, ding. I think it was 112 pounds, right? It’s crazy. For the beautiful boxer, they have boxing now, and they have a young gentleman who transitioned. It was a very good boxer, but he wanted to be a woman, which is, you know, to each his own. Because they want to be very liberal when it comes to these subjects. I’m trying to get that vote. It’s not an easy vote to get. It’s very tough for me to get it. But he transitioned, and he transitioned. And the girl was a champion boxer, from Italy, remember? She got up first round. He had a pum with a left, a left for those, everybody had his but, but a left, least enough better than anybody. But a left is defense. He goes, “Pum.” She’s like, “Oh, my God.” She walked to the corner, remember? She didn’t go down, but she did everything else. She said, “I’ve never been hit like that before. I don’t want to go out again. You can do it. You can do it.” Bing. You walked off. She said, “That’s...” He happened to win the gold medal that young woman. You won the gold medal. There were two transition people. They’re both one gold medals. The whole thing is ridiculous. You have policy on your side. They don’t have policy on your side. You have policy.”

This is a spiraling old man, with a thick coat of orange shellac on his face—obviously giddy from stimulants—who has lost his ability to control himself at all. His rhetoric is not just disconnected from reality; it’s disconnected from itself. This speech was almost 90 minutes of total nonsense, while the people’s representatives, many of whom were there on J6, dutifully applauded.

Donald Trump is exhibiting every symptom of rapidly progressing dementia: grandiose delusions, disinhibition, projection, incoherence, and increasingly inappropriate behavior. It is not just Trump being Trump. He’s losing his mind.

America is a demented nation, led by a demented man who is co-creating an alternate reality with the neo-Nazis, billionaires, and foreign agents around him. And they are forcing us to live in it.

What comes next is hard to know, by design. But the signals from the regime are unmistakable. There will be more attacks on other nations. There will be an escalation of attacks on the U.S. population. And the billionaires will continue to profit from the whole scenario.

As a measure of our national level of absurdity, when the richest man in the world Elon Musk had his reunion dinner with Donald Trump and Melania on the night of the Venezuela attack, I asked Musk’s chatbot to “remove the pedophile, the hooker and the racist from this photo.” It complied.

Even the robots know how badly we’ve screwed ourselves over.

As an American, five years after the worst political crime in U.S. history, I am mortified that we were unable to prevent this catastrophe. The Democrats, the Biden administration, and a vast array of powerful institutions managed to do just little enough to let this farce carry on to this point.

Nevertheless, I have a sense that the regime’s failures are building up faster than their ability to generate perceived “victories.” If you spray the “firehose of shit” long enough, eventually it fills up your own room and you can’t tell what’s real anymore yourself.

This process of an authoritarian regime becoming more and more disconnected from reality, and making things worse to cover it up, has a name: the Dictator’s Dilemma.
