DORA: Department of Reorganizing America

Democracy enjoyers need to learn from the enemy.

Elon Musk’s illegal, unconstitutional and murderous actions at DOGE are a function of his racism and eugenicist beliefs. He is personally at war with American democracy because he is at war with multiracial, multicultural humanity. Donald Trump is largely just a willing participant at this point.

However, the speed and ferocity of Musk’s takeover of the US federal government, and his focus on the software systems that underlie the government’s functions must not be ignored. As literally evil as Elon Musk is, he does have a vision—which he is executing as fast as he can. In fact, we should learn something from Elon Musk, mirror his evil with good, and reorganize America so none of this happens again.

For illustrative purposes, let’s call this mirror-DOGE agency the Department of Reorganizing America—or DORA. What are DORA’s functions?

• Reorganize government agencies to reflect American values.

• Establish a unified software infrastructure that all secures government systems from intrusion by domestic or foreign actors.

• Eject malevolent contractors like SpaceX, Palantir, Clearview, Anduril and other PayPal Mafia companies from the government and military.

• Rebuild trustworthy, accurate communications from the government to the people through all media channels.

• Restore freedom of the press by providing truthful information about government activities and being accountable for mistakes and failures.

As an example of how you might sell the vision of DORA, here is Pete Buttigieg with an extemporaneous description of everyday life that’s powerful in its simplicity.

While I’m not endorsing anyone at this point, I will point out that Buttigieg is McKinsey trained, a brilliant communicator, knows how to manage big projects, and could pull together a coalition of pro-democracy allies as fast as anyone. The primary thing lacking in this moment is leadership—and the vision that must come from those leaders.

The Musk-Trump regime has a vision: a hellscape of concentration camps, slave labor, and military oppression to benefit a few white supremacist oligarchs.

The pro-democracy movement needs a vision that proves to America it knows the game has changed entirely. The old rules have been eliminated. The Constitution is being shredded. And America is teetering on the edge of world war and another depression. We’ve been here before.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt had a vision. In many ways, he was the mirror image of Musk. He saw America as a young startup and reorganized it to reflect the nation he knew the Founders were hoping for—the New Deal.

America’s enemies understand what FDR did, which is why they are trying to reverse it. If democracy is to survive, we must find leaders willing to remove the shackles of establishment politics, tell the truth about what is actually happening, and have a better plan.

The bull has already been through the china shop. It’s time to build a stronger door.

A government reorganization plan which acknowledges that it failed to protect the American people—and takes serious corrective measures—is an absolute necessity, both in style and substance, to move forward as a democracy. Going back is not an option. Forward is the only way.

DORA may be light on details at this point—hey, I’m only human—but remember that DOGE was invented out of thin air not even six months ago by a ketamine-fueled, apartheid-obsessed, 4chan troll who bought the presidency and got a bunch of his neo-Nazi friends to help him sabotage the government.

The success of DOGE was not efficiency, or eliminating fraud, it was showing the weakness of the system, and identifying the people who want to destroy it.

We can do better than this. And we will.

Long live a free America. Glory to Ukraine.
