General Bircher: Mike Flynn’s “Anti-Communist” Crusade to Topple the US Government

How a right-wing cult created by Robert Welch in 1958 captured the GOP.

In 1958, a secret meeting was called by a candy manufacturer named Robert Welch. It consisted of 11 people, and involved Welch lecturing for 2 days about a vast communist conspiracy to take over the United States. The alternate reality Welch presented generated a set of ideas, and tactics, for actively recruiting people into a movement that mirrored the communist takeover he alleged was so imminent.

“John Birch Society” (JBS) was Robert Welch’s brand for a group of covert “anti-communist” crusaders who would actively subvert the federal government in the name of stopping the “Marxist,” “communist,” “socialist” takeover. Among the 11 original members was Fred Koch, father of Charles & David Koch, who have funded an enormous amount of illiberal activities, and were themselves members of JBS through the 1960s.

15 years after John Birch Society founder Robert Welch held his first meeting, in 1974, he laid out a 5-point plan nearly identical to Mike Flynn’s current agenda.

1. Get out of global organizations like the UN, WHO, NATO

2. Return to gold standard

3. Reduce government by 50%

4. Withdraw troops abroad

5. Retract the New Deal

The most astonishing thing about this is how Welch openly describes weaponizing the same tactics he accused “communists” of inflicting on the US — by “gradually convincing a majority of Americans of the wisdom of such a course.”

The “conspiracy theories” Welch peddled were always a cover for the actual conspiracy he was leading himself. This is the same strategy Mike Flynn uses — see QAnon for an example — as well as the same strategy and scapegoats, that Hitler used.

Robert Welch was addicted to conspiracy theories from a young age and ended up in the family candy business making a fortune from selling “Sugar Daddies.” In the 1940s, Welch was a member of the America First Committee, led by virulent antisemite Charles Lindbergh, who, like his friend Henry Ford, received a medal from Hitler in 1938. Lindbergh, like Welch, believed there was a plot to take over the world. The only difference is Lindbergh’s boogeyman was communist Jews.

While Welch feigned opposition to antisemitism, some of the most virulent antisemites in American history were members of JBS, including Nazi terrorist David Lane, who created the “14 words.”

In the “John Birch Society Agenda 2023” from their website, JBS asserts that immigration is a conspiracy to “fundamentally alter our Constitutional Republic” by the “Deep State and cultural Marxists.” This is the same core message as Lane’s “14 words,” just expressed with euphemisms and clichés. Another label for this is “Great Replacement Theory” which has driven numerous white supremacist mass murders.

In 2018, in an interview with the JBS publication The New American, Roger Stone asserted that Fred Trump, who was arrested at a KKK rally in 1927, was a “secret funder of the John Birch Society” and “a personal friend of Robert Welch.”

In 2016, Donald Trump attended the funeral of Dame of Malta Phyllis Schlafly who pretended not to be a member of JBS, but was secretly a key member for decades.

Schlafly was good friends with Mike Flynn’s mother Helen who was director of “Catholics for Life.” Mike Flynn drove floats in her anti-abortion rallies.

Schlafly was one of the most damaging anti-feminist, anti-human rights crusaders in American history. She effectively started the anti-abortion movement after Roe v. Wade, and was instrumental to killing the Equal Rights Amendment.

Here is Flynn singing Schlafly’s praises at her organization Eagle Forum in 2018, receiving an award from infamous anti-democratic operative Jack Singlaub, who gifted his non-profit “America’s Future” to Flynn in 2020, at the age of 99.

Another key member of JBS was G. Edward Griffin, who has created an enormous amount of propaganda for them for more than six decades. Here is Griffin in 1969 speaking to a group of recruits about the communist plot to take over America.

While this may seem like just a bunch of old white conspiracy theorists doing what they always do, they have successfully infiltrated a significant number of law enforcement officers. Here is “Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association” head, former Sheriff Richard Mack on JBS podcast “Anarchy & America.”

Here is a “press release” distributed on X by Mike Flynn’s terrorist operative Ivan Raiklin, urging Sheriffs and State officials to fight the federal government.

Last month, Mike Flynn was the guest of honor at the John Birch Society.

“You have known for decades that there’s a conspiracy behind the scenes. You believed in conspiracies, since it wasn’t cool.”

False “conspiracy theories” almost always have a purpose. They cover up for actual conspiracies, taking place right out in the open. John Birch Society is a relic, but a dangerous one, participating in a very real conspiracy to steal our votes and topple the US Government, in conjunction with seditionist law enforcement, foreign enemies, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
