I was just thinking that, once the newly elected are sworn in, we might finally have the numbers we need to pass National Popular Vote Interstate Compact legislation in some of the remaining states that haven't done so yet. As of this April when Virginia signed on, we had 18 states plus DC and totaling 222 electoral votes.

I have to look at the new states that Dems will gain power in to see which ones they will have enough legislative power to pass NPVIC legislation in but, we only need 48 more electoral votes.

Point being, if we can pass legislation in a couple more states to pickup at least 48 more electoral votes, Democrats might actually be able to finally end the damn electoral college and ensure that national popular vote is the sole decided for presidential elections moving forward.

It's not as impactful as ending legalized bribery but it would at least ensure we never have another 2016 or 2000 again...

Hell yeah we did! Thanks for all you've done. We'll enjoy this moment, and then get back to work!

So today at work I noticed the diet maga bros were either in full support of the wave or pretending they haven’t been sitting in our cafe every morning chudding out for the last 4 years lol. Dudes you would not expect wearing blue shirts to celebrate the victory. It’s absolutely amazing what the power of influence does. I bit my tongue. We’ll allow it!! 😂🤣🌊

Yes, a *moment.* Too bad we're still facing an uphill battle with so many disingenuous Republicans in Democrats' clothing. No, they're not as bad but that can't be the standard. They have to be SO much better or we're still screwed. Things are moving in the right direction but we're nowhere near where we need to be. Not even close. Too bad so many of them are feckless wonders taking dirty money from AIPAC and the same dark money donors who fund the GOP. All of the money spends the same on either side of the aisle.

If we had the leadership we really need, then *this* wouldn't even be a question:

We'll see. We shall see.

Recommend the Greg Olear link: forget the sludge of impeachment, this is a clear and valid pathway to expose the lies, corruption and unworthy Trump's eligibility to serve after betraying his oath to the constitution. Pardoning the Jan 6th insurrectionists compounds the original - tx Colorado - charge of ineligibility, not denied by SCOTUS, disallowed only as not a state's right, and includes Vance as giving comfort to the traitors too. Publish far and wide imho xxx tx! Also, WELL DONE VOTERS!! xxx from Blighty xx

We won the right to do all you say. If not a victory lap now when? I will defend your right to stay unhappy if you choose. Today, I am feeling relieved and quite victorious. Texas is blue and purple Az, is also blue for the first time since 1966. 🥳🎉

My comment argues that it's not the time for taking victory laps. We cannot get complacent. Dems are not the white knights here to save democracy. There's a while lot of work to do now and some of them still won't be up for it.

Trump is the toddler who broke all of the meticulously put together giant Lego sets. Now we have pieces everywhere and a few instruction manuals but it's going to be slow going trying to put any one set back together. Some 'sets' have been irreparably scattered.

We're not getting USAID, the CFPB, the NLRB or the Department of Education back. We're not going to see regulations that were gutted for the Department of the Interior or the EPA put back together. We're not going to see the Dept of Labor reports restored. The FDA and the DOD are not going to get unfucked. We're not going to see corporations putting all of their DEI initiatives back into place. J6ers, drug kingpins, Medicaid fraudsters and other criminals are still walking free. Crypto and the stock markets rules that don't even exist are not going to be rewritten. The war in Iran is still raging. Israel still has way too much influence over our foreign policy. What about Musk and Thiel and Altman, Russ Vought, Stephen Miller, Project 2025? Those existential threats are in no way neutralized.

Now, I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer here. The midterms are a greSt start. But Trump and his cronies moved fast and broke things and democracy is still teetering in the brink. Can Dems bring it back? I can't say.

We must remain clear eyed. Dems have to use their power to the best of their abilities, not just think that this victory is enough. Now they must reassert control and assume the full mantle of their authority. Trump will fight them for every inch of ground. It's not going to be easy. They have a mandate but can they really right this ship? It remains to be seen. I won't be convinced until I see the sleeves rolled up and some definitive work being done.
