I wrote this the day before Trump’s inauguration
Pretty accurate, if a bit optimistic
I was searching for something and ran into this draft of a Facebook post that I can’t even remember if I went through with. Anyway, this is how I felt on 1/19/17:
I’m watching Trump lay a wreath at Arlington Cemetery and I have to vent (after I vomit)…
We are less than 24 hours from witnessing a traitor, a rapist, a thief, a narcissistic sociopath, and an amoral plutocrat who cheated and colluded with the Russians to win the election get inaugurated, and the Democrats have a grand total of ONE politician (the great John Lewis) who dares say Trump is 'illegitimate'? IMAGINE what the Republicans would be doing if the story was reversed...
Liberals and Democrats need to OWN this shit. We allowed this to happen, and some of us actively enabled it by shitting on the one person (yes, HRC; no, not Saint Bernie) who could have saved us from this madness.
If you shared fake news, allowed yourself to be suckered by the right wing and the Russians about the Emailgate nothingburger, or otherwise bought in to the incredibly false equivalency being perpetrated by the MSM and social media, please, for god’s sake, LEARN SOMETHING. The nightmare that many of us were warning about is actually happening. Not a drill, not reality TV. Millions of people are going to actually going to suffer because of our epic failure.
So sure, let's march this weekend, maybe we'll even get memorialized by a petulant Tweet from the Orange King for our efforts. But the only way to survive this is to 1) Bring this son of a bitch DOWN for treason, and 2) Grow the fuck up and throw a wrench in the fascist machine that has now been built around our democracy before it’s too late.
I think there is a decent chance Trump gets yanked before 2018, but either way, we have to take at least the Senate back in the mid-terms so President Pence doesn’t get to ram SCOTUS nominees through when our aging liberal bench starts to croak. If that happens and they get a 6-3 or 7-2 majority, we are all well and truly fucked.
So, we need to exert as much pressure as possible to make sure that the investigations happening over Trump’s collusion with the Russians don’t get scuttled, and support PRACTICAL, SANE politicians in the mid-terms.

Here’s how it played out.
That wasn't optimistic at all but my despair was equal to yours. I mean, I fucking collapsed emotionally, I was so distraught. Except for specifics, I knew it was going to real bad. I'm embarrassed to admit this but my eldest son voted for trump. He said he thought we needed a cleansing. That broke me,. I took it so personally and asked him had it ever occurred to him that he made that decision as I was approaching retirement and while my husband was undergoing chemo. I told him a lot of people were going to get hurt. COVID marked my words. 💔
I do know one thing though. If I'm going down, I'm punching up all the way down.
Jim, your fighting spirit is inspiring and admirable. I can't thank you for caring so deeply and for giving all you have to save our country.
This is really important because the same shit is happening now with all those DEMS who are salty because Biden, Senate DEMS, house DEMS weren't able to meet every campaign promise in 15 months since Biden was inaugurated....Lotta people sitting on the sidelines for midterms cuz they R salty over relatively petty shit like not having their student loans forgiven yet and in doing so, they R going to doom the second half of Biden's term, setting the way for a second Trump term when they put the sedition caucus in as majority in House/ Senate.
Instead of realizing Biden was handed the biggest shit sandwich ever .....that will take AT LEAST his whole first term to fix (if DEMS keep House/Senate ) ....if GOP flips Congress our Democracy is OVER
