We did a popup protest yesterday on the streets of my very red city. I’m encouraged because every time we are out we get more honks and thumbs up. Still getting negatives, but they are less vocal, and some people pointedly did not look ( no curiosity tells me a lot). Besides making friends and being encouraged by people who are willing to stand up for freedom non-violently, it’s helped me see over time that we are making a difference (just as the loss of rights and economic security is being revealed as well— people are waking up). Find a group to help you speak out. Be careful. Above all— stay non-violent. That is the way that has always succeeded. It will again. Non-violent resistance. Civil disobedience. We know what works.
Jim I live in Portland. I happen to be in Amsterdam so I visited the Ann frank house. It’s all so predictable at this point isn’t it? We must not allow this but I’m feeling powerless to stop it. You keep me sane(well as much as anyone could haha)thank you for your work🙏
The "truth" it appears is what anybody says it is. Patel telling Sean Kennedy that the citizens are happy with what trump is doing goes against all the facts. So, the question is, how many people are they willing to arrest and jail because if, their estimation all those protesting the government are "Antifa" then whose left? To simply make the threat of calling their act an "insurrection" or violent when it clearly shows it isn't either can enable them to institute a Ministry of Truth out of lies. I believe they are pushing the envelope because of the upcoming protest on the 18th which may prove to be the biggest yet. If they are designated insurrectionists they can then go in with all guns blazing! Oh American this is clearly a president who hates that his country is democratic. He'll try to put a stop to it. The law obviously means nothing to this Administration either. I don't know how you solve the problem of trump when there appears to be nobody standing up to him but THE PEOPLE! This is so similar to Putin's Russia. He cowed the nation so that even though they don't believe a word he says they have to keep their damn mouth shut. Or suffer the consequences.
I appreciate how good you are at putting the pieces together that lead to Trump declaring martial law (or something that gives him the military control he desires).
But you leave out the non-violent response available to the rest of us (and already in evidence at airports where air traffic controllers aren’t showing up for work): a National Strike. All we need to do is stop spending money / cancel subscriptions to (now right wing) Paramount / CBS and other actions (like not showing up for work) and, I believe, we will collapse this attempted takeover of our country without firing a shot.
I still feel helpless, Jim, knowing what you've written here is nothing but the truth. Portland's protesters been very good at following guidelines and curfew's. Showing up in Chicken and Frog costumes too🤣 It will be at trump's be hence if there's any escalation, and of course his DHS,ICE, National Guard and god knows who else?!!
