The word lunacy comes from a centuries-old superstition that people suddenly become crazier based on the appearance of a full moon. This idea was added to the ancient myth of werewolves by Hollywood. Myth added to myth can make a good story—for a movie.

However, when lunacy rises to the highest levels of the federal government, when myth-making becomes policy, you get spectacles like this which honestly made me cry-laugh for a solid ten minutes.

This is not just a bit of disinformation from a member of Trump’s Cabinet, it is a complete denial of modern reality. Volta invented the battery in 1800. Gaston Planté invented the first rechargeable battery in 1859. Whoever tweeted the quote from Secretary of Energy was doing it on a device with a rechargeable battery.

Wright has a BA in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in electrical engineering from MIT. While I never went to MIT, I have a strong intuition that they learned about batteries in electrical engineering classes. One clue about his sudden amnesia about the basics of science may be that before joining the Trump regime, Wright was the CEO of Liberty Energy, the second largest fracking company in the world—which he founded in 2011.

How much of what Wright actually believes about his false claims about wind and solar energy is like asking how much Trump believes. The net effect is learned lunacy—behavior normally considered insane which has become part of someone’s psychological reality.

As one more example, here is the richest man and the CEO of SpaceX promoting a devoted flat-earth account in order to smear the former richest man Bill Gates—who was recently invited to the White House AI summit, while Elon Musk was not.

While I have long laughed at the press’s elevation of Elon Musk as a “genius,” I’m guessing that even he knows that the Earth is round. But it doesn’t matter because it fits into his demented worldview. Leaned lunacy has taken over America.

Please join me and our community today at Noon PT / 3PM ET to discuss the week’s events including Trump’s reemergence from isolation to declare war on Venezuela, Chicago and Epstein survivors. There is no pressure to talk but it’s always open for your questions and comments. Hope to see you! Details below.
