America is, of course, very different from the European countries where fascism rose and flourished 100 years ago. Geographically (vastly bigger), technologically (in too many ways to count), and in time (much historical ‘water under the bridge’). Still, in the same way America benefitted by receiving many (sadly, not enough) refugees fleeing persecution, other lands today will, and should, benefit from an inflow of intelligent, skilled, and experienced Americans. We may beat back American fascism eventually. But that will take a while, too long for the best and brightest of our youth.

I like Make America America Again!

I was thinking about that sentiment (without the catchy tagline) - after the election. While I was hoping there would be a forensic audit of the ballots I am not sure the American people will ever see one. Apparently the Presidential race was lost by less than 250,000 votes over the key states. My state, Michigan, was one of them. The Democratic Senate candidate won her race over the Republican but Trump won the State. ? How many people actually split their ballot?

I don’t want to “change my way of life”. Most people I know, Trump voters and otherwise aren’t interested in changing their way of life. I live among them. The Trump voters have been fed the propaganda bs. They aren’t dealing with the same reality. The most gullible believe if Trump says it then everyone should fall in line - BUT - we are still talking about Americans and Americans are used to democracy.

Trump’s own “base” are not going to accept restrictions on their way of life. They will not give up their guns.

They will not give up their gas guzzlers (they can’t afford to anyway). They will not go out of the way for any politician.

They are nostalgic or just resent government authorities “telling them” what to do.

Many in the “base” resent undocumented immigrants because there is some competition with citizens in certain job categories, especially those not even requiring a GED or high school degree.

BUT - ANYTHING that interferes with “their way of life” will bring anger, whatever side it is from.

Unfulfilled economic improvements by the Trump administration for working class and middle income households will result in resentment building up.

Grievance against change from American norms (which is coming from Trump 2.0) can be used to bring disgruntled trump supporters back into a group that supports the US Constitution. That’s a start.

Make America America Again ❤️💙❤️💙🇺🇸
