Jim, I appreciate this information and the historical perspective. I often wonder what our founders would think about what this traitorous administration is doing. It’s enraging beyond words.

A very interesting history lesson. Critical information about the founder’s thoughts which certainly apply to our current predicament.

I envision the troops of the Illinois National Guard, fully armed and battle ready, blocking the Interstate Highways at their neighboring states borders leading to Chicago. There to meet and stop, by whatever means necessary, the assembled force sent by the federal government.

This will not end well, and may, when our history of these United States is looked back upon , be more important than Lexington and Concord.

When I saw Militia Timebomb in your title, I thought for sure you meant the Proud Boys and other self organized militias. I suspect Trump's pardon has emboldened them, and it won't be long before we see them on the streets. When I heard he'd authorized "civilian volunteers" to assist law enforcement in a recent EO, civilian employees of the DoD were not what came to mind. This is an unfinished thought, it's just been on my mind

I’ve been wondering where the Proud Boys and those type fit in to all of this as well. Some have probably joined up with ICE, but I’m afraid there’s an even darker role for them upcoming…

I agree. Is anyone keeping an eye on Roger Stone? He seemed to be the liason in 2020

I'm Canadian and we do study U.S. history, but not in this kind of detail. I've never understood the origins and the purpose of the National Guard, and the reason for having Federal and State guards. This essay was very helpful.

Will Guardsmen and their officers actually obey illegal orders to interfere with voting, block the seating of duly elected representatives, prevent the peaceful transfer of power, or other imaginable demands made by the Trump regime? Particularly in states where Federal intervention has not been requested and is actively being resisted by elected Governors? Might we see actual armed opposition by National Guardsmen called by Governors vs out of state Guardsmen responding to Federal call-up from Red states? That would be Civil War II. But if Guard officers sworn to the Constitution say NO WAY, it doesn’t have to happen.

Apparently, the NRA completely forgot to take up their precious arms against this dictator.

This is so helpful -- and scary! Especially what could happen in January 2027 with Congress. Please, Governors, form a strong coalition against all this NOW!

I hope they build that coalition! We don’t have much time. Also, I find it interesting Burr was compared to Cromwell as modern politicos compare Trump to Hitler.

This was a great piece, Jim!

Thanks!

+1

I grew up in Northern California. Bare minimum. We took history for granted. I know I did. Maybe bc I didn’t think it was part of the future. Couldn’t have been more wrong.
