This was such a sharp piece, especially the part toward the end about how our drive to discern can get entangled with (or even replaced by) the urge to imitate (often subconsciously). The line between pattern recognition and mimicry has always seemed like a bit of a pressure point in both human psychology and emerging tech, and you captured it really well.
Funny timing that I came across this today: I finally published my first piece on Substack (still learning the ropes), and it touches on some similar themes like mimetic dynamics, narrative manipulation, and how they complicate truth-seeking (in my article, especially in the context of the idea of tech utopias and Network States).
I actually started out here just lurking and reading a small handful of people who ended up inspiring me to write something myself (which I didn’t expect)—and you’re one of them. Life’s too short not to let the people who inspired you know that they did, so… thank you.
(If you ever get a chance to check it out, I’d love to hear your thoughts—but no pressure at all. It turned out longer than I meant for it to be, haha).
Speaking of the creator, recently stumbled onto this series has some nicely assembled Dark MAGA background info. that many may already have some familiarity with, or could be new to some.
Intriguing reading for a Saturday afternoon. I am amazed, frankly, by Jim’s breadth of knowledge. I’ve learned many new things from his writings in the few weeks since I found him.
I’m 70, and I am somewhat terrified by ai. However, to read ai’s take on Stephen Miller, I am coming around to thinking that there may be some good to come of it.
But today’s story regarding Jim’s interaction with Grok is alarming. The fact that Musk, with Twitter, is able to manipulate millions and potentially infect them with his diseased thinking is frightening. I hope that people will think critically about the things that come out of Grok/Musk’s mouth.
Jim, I found your posts on ChatGPT 's analysis of Trump’s and Miller's statements to be stunningly accurate. Since Vance is considered the oligarchy's POTUS in waiting, would you be willing to run his recent statement through it to see what additional insights might pop out?
I am constantly amazed at how human beings, influenced by 'the group,' make choices that are bad for them--and then rationalise those choices, then believe the rationalisations.
We gotta find a way to get people to think independently.

Ahh. All clear now. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. The great Grok has spoken!
