Orania, April and Lessons On Tyranny

Orania is a small town in South Africa devoted to the preservation of apartheid in South Africa. It is a whites-only relic of a slave state finally overthrown over three decades ago. Nevertheless, Orania has suddenly become a cause celébre among the far-right. Tucker Carlson recently did an interview with Orania’s leader apologizing for apartheid and bemoaning racism against white people. Last week the New York Republicans Club had a “Wine Wednesday” with a “Delegation from Orania.”
It is no mystery why apartheid South Africa is being promoted. It’s the same reason we ejected South Africa’s ambassador, why we skipped the G20 in Johannesburg, and why the entire Trump regime is pushing the message that the South African government is racist against white people. Elon Musk wants apartheid in America and Trump is happy to go along with it.
That’s why April is likely to be a very consequential month in America history. Musk and DOGE are being partially blocked by the courts and the frustration of the regime that the entire country has not rolled over yet is evident. The revelations of Signalgate, the promotion of Tesla by the administration, the unconstitutional treatment of immigrants, and the rejection of Usha and JD Vance by Greenlanders has made the regime look like what it is, a bumbling, racist train wreck.
On April 2nd, we will have “LIBERATION DAY” according to Donald Trump, when he will slap tariffs, which the American people pay for, on most of the rest of world. This will likely cause massive turbulence in the markets.
On April 20th, Pete Hegseth and Kristi Noem will decide whether to recommend that Trump invoke the Insurrection Act because of the “crisis at the border.” This is also Hitler’s birthday and Musk’s favorite day.
Martial Law on 4/20?
In this deeply alarming opinion piece in the SF Chronicle, Brett Wagner, who served as a professor of national security decision making for the U.S. Naval War College, raises the specter of Trump invoking the Insurrection Act, and martial law.
We will also have movement on the Reorganizing Government Act of 2025, which will serve as the Enabling Act for the Trump regime—a way to destroy the government without requiring any Democrats.

A bicameral bill has been introduced by the esteemed duo of Hunter hunter James Comer and “Based” 4chan Senator Mike Lee that hasn’t gotten a lot of attention, yet.
Finally, the Supreme Cult will be deciding on whether or not due process still exists in America. Either way, the decision is likely to be explosive.

When Donald Trump started flying brown people to a slave prison camp in El Salvador based solely on the fact that they had tattoos, Judge James Boasberg immediately, correctly and decisively shut it down as being wildly unconstitutional. Several appeals have failed, so Trump has done the expected, appealed directly to the Supreme Court.
While I can’t tell you exactly how this will roll out, it seems clear that this will be the month that the regime takes its first real shot at ending democracy and creating a dictatorship, just as Hitler did at this point in the Third Reich. That’s why I’m particularly grateful for this reminder by Timothy Snyder of his Twenty Lessons from the crucial book On Tyranny.
