RadPod: 41 Middle Fingers and Counting

Just a word about our scrappy little show

Hey friends,

Last year, three dear friends of mine — Heidi, HiFi and Sean — all of whom I met on Twitter exposing fascists — decided to start a podcast.

I suggested “Radicalized” as a double-entendre meaning we cover radicalization and we are, as a result of the current situation in America, being “radicalized” in a way ourselves. Heidi wanted to include a positive message and suggested “Radicalized: Truth Survives” which we all loved.

The show covers disinformation, the impact it’s having on all of us and ways to fight back. I’m extremely proud of it.

Our 41st episode is legendary IMHO. Not because of anything we did, but because our guest John Sweeney is not only a badass journalist and war correspondent with no fucks for Putin or Trump, he is one of the best storytellers I have ever heard.

But, despite our focus, it’s almost impossible to describe the amount of hate, vitriol and coordinated harassment our show, the hosts, and many of our guests have received, a lot of it from the “left.”

A few weeks after we started, I suddenly started getting permanently banned from Twitter, which they were forced to reverse — twice. Then a few days after I announced my documentary, I got permanently banned for the third time for “ban evasion” which was nonsense.

Because I had a very large voice on Twitter, this drastically reduced our show’s reach. And with me not there to counteract the lies and trolling, the harassment campaign freely targets any positive mention of the show, thereby reducing our influence even more.

Despite it all, with the exception of a week off here and there, we have continued to do the show every single week, plus a livestream every Thursday. The hard work of my co-hosts has kept our show not only going, but getting better ever week. We have no plans of stopping.

To Mike Flynn, his fascist insurgency and the controlled opposition: That’s 41 middle fingers and counting.

Bio: John Paul Sweeney (born 7 June 1958) is a British investigative journalist and writer. He worked for The Observer newspaper, and the BBC's Panorama and Newsnight series. Sweeney ceased working for the BBC in October 2019. Sweeney worked for 12 years at The Observer newspaper, where he covered wars and revolutions in more than 60 countries including Romania, Algeria, Iraq, Chechnya, Burundi and Bosnia.

Sweeney has written several books, non-fiction as well as fiction including the best-selling novel set in the war in Burma, Elephant Moon (2016), and a co-authored investigation into the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, Murder On The Malta Express (2019).

His latest thriller is The Useful Idiot, about fake news in Stalin's Moscow in 1933, published in 2020.
