Stupid Prizes: A Simple Key to the Not-SOTU

The “Technate of America” is being created “one way or the other”

Trump’s speech to a Joint Session of Congress (notably not advertised as a “State of the Union”) last night was, for anyone who watched his campaign, a fairly mundane affair — as designed. Yes, it was full of lies and it was offensive beyond anything you could have imagined happening in Congress before we allowed the Insurrectionist-In-Chief back in the White House, but there was no “news” in it at all. It was designed to normalize the first seven weeks of a fascist coup of the US government.

Al Green interrupted the proceedings towards the beginning as a protest against Trump’s intended cuts to Medicaid. It seemed to take some of the air out of the room, a worthy example of righteous fury — something we need more of. The Democrats did some creative things with signs.

Another bit of positive news was Elissa Slotkin’s response. In a domain that includes some of the worst political performances of all time, this was clear, direct, actionable and likable — a CIA trained intelligence officer looking the country right in the eye and laying it out. It’s well worth watching if you missed it. She’s got a great deal of potential.

Trump lied again about his intentions of seeking a “peace deal” with Russia and Ukraine while touting again the mineral deal he wants — which has been “imminent” for weeks now. As I wrote, Zelenskyy doesn’t have many cards, but he is a very good poker player. Trump’s bluff got called so now he’s ordered the CIA to stop sharing intelligence with our former ally Ukraine. This will get Ukrainians killed — and in a sane world would constitute Treason.

But the key parts of Trump’s speech were a long, totally fabricated list of programs and “savings” from “DOGE” designed to pummel the listener into believing the government is a giant transgender DEI communist plot to waste everyone’s money, and a reaffirmation of his intention to “reclaim” the Panama Canal and to “get” Greenland “one way or the other”.

I’d like to draw attention, again, to this map, to which I’ve added a few boxes. This is the “Technate of America” as envisioned by “Technocracy, Inc.” — a movement championed in Canada by Elon Musk’s grandfather Joshua Haldeman, a pro-Hitler racist who moved to apartheid South Africa in 1950.

Trump put 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada yesterday with the excuse of fentanyl crossing the border — a completely nonsensical rationale, unless you understand the actual point. Trump is intentionally trying to put stress on their economies, to break their will and terrify them into submitting to a North American Empire.

I continue to see the corporate media and greater punditocracy mocking Trump’s expansionist ambitions. But that is only because they cannot break out of the political frame of reference — which is at this point, a category error.

There is no more politics, there is only war.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk are playing very stupid games, and, unless we find a way to sabotage them, we’re all going to get very stupid prizes. They’ve dropped all our defenses, antagonized all our friends, and turned the government into a QAnon chatroom.

Never, ever let this be normalized.
