Taking Advantage of the Chaos
Some thoughts on the way forward
The damage being done to America is intentionally irreversible.
We should slow it down as much as possible, but we need to be thinking about ways to take advantage of the chaos to update the whole system — so it can’t be hacked by a conspiracy of psychopaths again.
All three Branches need a Constitutional update. The Bill of Rights and subsequent Amendments, including the ERA, need to be cleared up so that people can’t take advantage of 250-year old language to reverse the plain meaning of the document.
Separation of powers must be more clearly enshrined. Limits on abuse of power must be defined and written in stone. We must never be faced with a dictator, or an oligarchy, again.
The electoral college and election system needs to be updated from the 18th century. It has been distorted beyond the obvious intention of the Framers, and beyond any conceivable idea of fairness. Corporate, foreign and dark money must never be allowed to pollute our politics again.
The reality of the digital world must no longer be ignored. We cannot just wave our hands at “free speech” anymore. Speech is no longer words from a mouth or ideas on a page. It’s a weapon, a way to mass control people. Speech that hurts people is not free.
The separation of Church and State was the keystone of the US Constitution. It’s why the first ten words of the Bill of Rights, the Establishment Clause, ensure freedom from religion. Freedom of religion comes second. This must never again be challenged.
The Supreme Court, the Justice System, law enforcement… all of it needs to be rescued and remade after a long history of injustice, racism and corruption. Surely there is a better system than one that would allow all of this to happen.
The Framers were imperfect white men. The Constitution was structurally immoral from the start. But it had genius, a mechanism to make a “more perfect Union” along the way.
However, over 2 1/2 centuries that process has created a Rube Goldberg of a system, barely held together, and too easily hackable — as we’ve just found out. Some of it is going away. Some of it can be made better. And some of it will be totally new. The only question is who will be in charge of rebuilding, who has a better plan, and who has better ideas.
It might seem like a lot, but if a small group of colonists could figure out how to program America in 1776, we can figure out how to debug it.
Time to get to work.

Yes, freedom FROM religion is the starting point of the Bill of Rights. We never lived up to the fundamental principle that sovereignty comes only from the people. Look where we are now. Religion is the great crowbar of political propaganda and corruption that empowers despots the world over. Your list is long. We have to start somewhere. Might as well start at the beginning and connect everything else to it. The people have to learn that they are their own sovereigns, not mad kings, priests, and petty billionaires who think they are gods.
You are giving me hope that we can and will rebuild from the ground up including constitutional rewrites. I've been writing personally about this for a long time so will be looking forward to a growing team with vision and foresight. I'm wondering if the Dems are getting their own battalion of teenage tech geniuses together to mend the damage or give us something better For The People. When AI exceeds the Human brain's abilities, Human Evolution screeches to a halt. I hope some red flags are built into the systems.
