The Consequences of 2016

Donald Trump installed hundreds of judges. They are paying him back.

Two stories today are emblematic of one of the biggest problems with trying to diagnose and heal American democracy in 2022. We have been conditioned to take the damage and corruption wrought by Donald Trump and his illegal ascent to the presidency in 2016 as water under the bridge instead of a continuous threat to our way of life.

The problem is that the water is poisoned and still flowing. Trump installed hundreds of extreme, unqualified and brainwashed nut jobs in the judiciary — including three ill-begotten Supreme Court Justices.

The rot in the courts leads to rulings like these, where extensive video and communications evidence of violent conspiracies and overt felonies still leads to acquittals and hung juries. It will also lead to the end of Roe v. Wade — just to start.

We cannot continue to ignore the fundamental dissonance with all of the dialogue about the ongoing attempted coup. We must reframe the argument about why the threat exists at all.

The fascists had four years in power which were illegitimately acquired. We need to acknowledge and address the fact that there are hundreds of people installed by an agent of the Russian Federation who was himself installed by Putin — Donald Fucking Trump.

They got there illegally. Kick them all out.

I understand the logistics may be challenging, but there has to be a rule against agents of enemy foreign powers installing judges to lifetime positions. Right?
