The Feckless Press is Dragging Us to Oblivion

They should be covering this like America is being invaded — because it is

I have CNN on this morning as I always do, and it got me extremely pissed off so I’m going to rant. Hope you don’t mind. CW: I might yell and cuss a bit. 😜

American mainstream media is utterly incapable of doing its job anymore. Worse, it is the single most dangerous source of normalization.

Everyone knows the story of a frog in a pot of water which gets gradually warmer, which the frog doesn’t notice until the water boils and kills it.

In the cartoon above, you are the frog. Putin, Mike Flynn and their fascist friends are the hand, and the feckless press is the water.

“Media” is plural of medium, which has lots of meanings but this is the relevant one:

The medium “through which impressions are conveyed to the senses” in this case is the press, who are responsible for providing the American people a clear picture of reality so they can make good decisions. They are supposed to tell us the temperature of the water but they are utterly — and dangerously — failing.

CNN this morning is the height of normalization, the flame under the pot is on blast and the water is close to boiling. But CNN is doing an extremely good impression of portraying a country that’s doing just fine.

The 2022 elections are a referendum on whether the US is going to turn into a theocratic fascist ethnostate. There are hundreds of candidates running for office who are openly anti-American chaos agents, genuine QAnon believers, and actual traitors who will ignore the will of the voters.

And yet, CNN is out here covering the back and forth like it’s 1992.

— What’s Trump’s endorsement record? Is his influence waning?

— Mo Brooks is moving up in the polls despite Trump unendorsing him

— Biden’s poll numbers are low. Can he recover?

WHO FUCKING CARES? Mo Brooks is literally mentally ill and spoke at numerous ACTUAL QANON CONFERENCES. The idea he could be a Senator is baffling.

Trump is a blatant foreign asset who was illegally elected and has spent six years gaslighting America onto the ledge of civil war. It is a national emergency that he is still walking free.

Biden’s numbers are low because the press is taking every bit of red meat that the fascists throw at their feet and both-sidesing everything.

There’s another expression, “a watched pot never boils.”

That’s not true, a watched pot doesn’t boil because by the time it does you’re already dead. CNN spent 20 minutes on the Amber Heard / Johnny Depp trial.

“Pay no attention to the tiny bubbles popping up around you.”

For fuck sake. 😠
