To Whom We Have Extended Our Trust

You failed. What are you doing about it?

As someone who has spent a significant part of my life warning about this moment, to no avail, the silence of the people we have entrusted with our safety and security is suffocating.

Let’s review. An unelected immigrant plutocrat who did two Hitler salutes at the presidential inauguration has literally seized the Treasury of the United States.

Simultaneously, his team of goons raided the foreign aid agency USAID, steamrolled some minor resistance and shut it down with no congressional oversight, no discussion — except for a midnight chat with a bunch of Elon Musk’s subservient Twitter friends.

This is not just radically unconstitutional organized crime, it’s an enormous gift to our enemies. USAID is not just humanitarian in nature, it’s also a way to project power into the world. But an oligarch has quite literally invaded the government and unilaterally decided we don’t need it and started chopping off limbs.

But what does he get in return? North America. Trump’s 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico have nothing to do with fentanyl or a “drug war” and everything to do with preparing the ground to create a continental Reich from Greenland to Colombia.

Xi will get Taiwan. Putin will get Eastern Europe. The PayPal Mafia will get the “Technate of America.”

As I write this, the tariffs on Canada will still go into effect tomorrow — while the National Anthem is being booed at sports events there.

The President of Mexico got a one month delay on tariffs after threatening to cease all trade with the US, but is now sending 10,000 troops to the border. I fully expect “tensions to increase” until there is the inevitable spark leading to violence.

Nevertheless, no one in power, or in the media, is willing to call this what it is — a literal Nazi coup of the country.

Name the regime:

• Threatened and intimidated its geopolitical neighbors

• Cozied up to foreign dictators and created a new alliance of aggression

• Scapegoated communists, socialists and Marxists

• Scapegoated Jews, Black & brown people, immigrants, LGBTQ, disabled

• Wants submissive women. Banned abortion.

• Systematically radicalized and mobilized violent young men as enforcers

• Created concentration camps

• Targeted the previous government for retribution — despite a peaceful transfer of power

• Seized all aspects of the administrative state

• Made the legislative and judicial branches subservient to the dictator

• Attacked the press as dishonest and cracked down on dissidents

• Attacked education, unions and liberalism

This is not history rhyming it is plagiarism. The next steps I anticipate are a 21st century version of the Reichstag Fire, the Enabling Act, and the Night of the Long Knives — which Mike Flynn has already threatened.

I have seen no concerted effort from anyone to stop this train which only ends in suffering and death. And yet this is how the Vichy corporate media is trying to spin it:

Yes, the New York Times asserts that Democrats are debating whether we actually agree with this jaw-dropping authoritarian coup — or, they suggest, maybe it’s just a “messaging” problem after all.

No, the problem is weakness. The problem is lack of moral clarity. The problem is dishonesty. No one is willing to openly confront this threat because they are afraid of it. It’s a pandemic of cowardice.

The new DNC Chair, Ken Martin, seems like a nice man who has absolutely no idea what he’s walking into. He’s not facing a political problem, he’s been sucked up into a coup of the US government by enemies foreign and domestic.

As with any chronic, self-defeating disorder, the first step is admitting the problem.

It’s the goddamned Nazis again. To the people who were supposed to protect us: What are you going to do about it?
