Grassroots campaigns are hard to get started, but I think the single most effective action people can take right now is: invite their neighbor for dinner.

The second most important thing is: invite your other neighbor over for dinner.

And so on.

We need to step out of the internet to reconnect. Our friends and family and neighbors don’t want to believe this stuff, but they’re not capable of extending the olive branch.

We have to show them that even if we’re dirty evil liberals, we are still human and we care about how they feel.

My partner, who was a renowned author of several books and an expert on the subject of literacy, spoke often on empathy and the lack of it. She pushed reading regularly to children, grandchildren, etc. from quality literature. This is valuable for a number of reasons, including exposure and development of great vocabularies to prepare them for school. It also helps to develop empathy by allowing kids (and people in general) to get into the minds and motivations of the characters, especially in foreign lands or cultures different than one's own. People just are not reading for pleasure the way we used to before other technological distractions were invented. I learned so much from her, but she died the end of April this year. Such a wise woman! I try to carry her message forward.

I remember this one youtube video had a distorted voice and was like custom made for me. Fucking indigos, rainbows, and crystals. Are you familiar with container cults?
