Don’t Get Siloed: The Project to Divide Us
Bluesky, Twitter and the coming reality apocalypse
After Donald Trump was elected through active measures and psychological warfare in 2016, there were two important reactions. First, a true organic desire of the people to resist what they knew would be a regime of terror, and second, a concerted large-scale effort to destroy that resistance from the inside out.
Bluesky, an app which closely models Twitter but portrays itself as a place where liberals can feel safe, has accumulated 20 million users, most of them since the election. Without going into the gory details, Bluesky was founded, like Twitter, by Jack Dorsey, an ally of Elon Musk, and then apparently sold to a group of crypto bros, including the extremely problematic Brock Pierce.
This would be sketchy enough to raise concerns, but there are other troubling signs. There has been literally no mention of millions of users leaving X/Twitter to Bluesky from Elon Musk. He has simply chosen to ignore it. Given his atomic reaction to Mastodon, Threads, Substack and other competitors, this seems odd — almost as if he’s perfectly fine with it.
Additionally, I’m seeing a disturbing pattern of inauthentic actors on the “left” urging liberals to not only join Bluesky but delete their X/Twitter accounts. When the controlled opposition is unanimous about something, it’s a good sign something nefarious is going on. Nothing is free. If it’s free, you are the product.
Now, let me be clear. X/Twitter and the twisted Nazi nightmare that Elon Musk made out of it, are deeply behind enemy lines. It’s an abusive, tilted 8chan clone at this point and there is no greater critic, or frankly victim of it, than me. However, the reality is that all of our communications are compromised, and the repression will get worse when Trump’s regime comes to power.
One of the primary tools they will use to ensure that any resistance is unsuccessful is division. The goal is to silo people, to set the left against each other instead of against the terrorists that are about to take power. I urge you not to fall into this trap and to be aware of the tactics they will use against you.
In the near future, the information environment, already deeply chaotic and poisonous, will become a reality apocalypse. It will be extremely difficult to tell truth from lies, friend from foe, and reality from fiction.
My recommendations are simple:
Find people and groups that have kept their sanity now, before we become an authoritarian hellscape. It will only get harder.
Don’t give up territory in the information war by deleting your social media accounts. It’s impossible to know what’s going to happen in the short term, much less the long term. Protect your digital spaces.
Diversify your communications strategy. Authoritarian regimes attack the ability of their opposition to talk to each other. Don’t get cut off. Keep your options open.
If we let the enemy keep us isolated and only talking in our own echo chambers, the project to break America apart will succeed. Resist. At every level. Together. 🇺🇸

very fair take. I would also urge folks not to nuke their Twitter/X handles entirely because bad actors could snap it up and rejigger for propaganda. I'm not ceding the space; rather, focusing more time on Bluesky but keeping a foothold on Elmo's shithole until... not sure when. but we'll cross that Nazi bridge when we get there 🤣
I urge Signal and Discord. Discord lets you have your own servers for group chats and video cons; Signal is extremely secure - so far. - you can do group chats and calls.
I agree that Bluesky - and probably Mastodon are ops of some kind.
Think WWI and WWII subrosa comms
Even better - Medieval subrosa comms strategies and tactics.
