Hopium: What if?
As a thought experiment, let’s reverse engineer saving democracy
Watching the first January 6th Committee hearing, along with some of the DOJ moves leading up to it, has created a tiny glimmer of hope that there may actually be a plan. It’s just a glimmer, but I wanted to speculate a bit to see where it goes.
Here’s the thought experiment:
What if there was an administration plan — in cooperation with Congress and the DOJ — to use the 1/6 hearings to lay the public groundwork for sweeping arrests this Summer leading to other moves designed to stabilize the country and defeat the ongoing fascist insurrection?
Here is the way that would work:
Joe Biden, Merrick Garland, Christopher Wray, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and others at the top of the government have met and coordinated a plan to gather evidence and testimony and to make it public as quickly as possible in order to present the case to the American people and save the country.
They determined that a Congressional Investigation would be the most efficient way to gather information because the DOJ can only investigate crimes and because Congress would also be the perfect venue to present the case to the public.
The administration also knew that it needed a Republican to present part of the case and recruited Liz Cheney whose voting record and last name assures that she can never be seriously accused of being a RINO.
Merrick Garland, with knowledge of the overall plan, worked from the bottom up while the January 6th Committee worked from the top down. DOJ charged the Oathkeepers and the Proud Boys — the primary kinetic weapons used by Roger Stone, Mike Flynn and others — with Seditious Conspiracy on purpose.
Once the hearings conclude, and the public is fully and irrevocably informed about the conspiracy to overturn the government, Congress sends official criminal referrals for an array of conspirators, but there is one group in particular they will focus on.
Everyone at the 12/18/20 meeting who conspired to create a “wild protest” that nearly caused the capture and execution of Mike Pence, Nancy Pelosi and many others, is charged with Seditious Conspiracy. The indictments of the Oathkeeper and Proud Boy leaders was pretext — if you charge the soldiers, you have to charge the generals.
This Summer a series of rolling perp-walks of Trump, Flynn, Giuliani, Bannon, Powell and others give the public a renewed sense of justice and faith in democracy.
The Supreme Court comes down with their ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, 5-4, with Roberts dissenting. A wide, loud, irrepressible protest movement to preserve women’s rights erupts across the country.
The DOJ charges Ginny Thomas with conspiracy. Clarence Thomas is forced to resign. A 5-4 court ultimately reverses the decision.
Elon Musk is investigated by the SEC for stock manipulation and fraud. Twitter holds him to the deal and Musk is forced to pay a billion dollars to exit.
Fox News becomes a target of a criminal probe into foreign interference. Tucker Carlson’s ties to newly indicted criminals Mike Flynn and Steve Bannon make Tucker a target along with his boss Rupert Murdoch. Fox News is forced to stop spreading Russian propaganda to its audience and is sold off.
Apple and Google are forced through public protest and government inquiries to remove the dangerous propaganda app Telegram from their stores.
The combination of decisive actions by the administration, a renewed sense of national hope, and a reduction of propaganda into the body politic restores some sanity to Americans that was taken away.
The arrests of the leadership of the conspiracy makes the planned attack on the 2022 election disorganized and ineffective.
We retain majorities in both Houses. The Senate has the numbers to kill the filibuster despite Sinema and Manchin. Roe is codified, voting rights are passed, election integrity and campaign finance reforms are legislated. The country turns around in time for 2024…
When I think of the fantasy scenario above, this song immediately pops in my head. I mean, it sure would be nice if there was a plan, wouldn’t it? #ArrestMikeFlynn
I believe the Dems will hold both the House and Senate expanding majorities increasing a few seats held in both. Hoping for a 55 Seat majority in the Senate and the removal of the racist and non-Constitutionally formed filibuster.
If the House falls, Biden will be continuously impeached, so as to minimize the shame of Trump's undermining US policy blackmailing and attempted bribery of Ukraine facing Russian invasion, as well as his calling for and directing an insurrection meant to seize the Presidency by force. If the Senate falls, The GOP will capture an even larger share of the Judicial Branch than McConnell stole after the 2014 Midterms.
Democracy is precious. We all need to vote solidly blue to save it.
I think we need nothing short of a RICO that sweeps up all of these dark money organizations. Money is the thing that is ultimately driving the conspiracy. If we don’t get the money they may fund a war to save themselves. During the Business Plot, one tycoon said he was willing to spend half his fortune to save the other half. My hope is that Fanny Willis will save the day.
