One way I use to not be as affected by these people is to create separation in my mind. I say to myself, "There are some bonkers, super greedy f***ks in DC and around America acting horribly. Got that. I'm going to live my life now." Separation and mockery.

Spot-on. Thanks Jim. I think that what you outline here is exactly what is happening in their attempts to control us.. Not sure if this is "off-topic" but I've been wondering exactly *how* he, Trump, has achieved such a level of obeisance from Congress, the Supreme Court, DOJ, FBI HHS, the list goes on. I'm thinking it may be more than gratitude for getting the job, more than fear of retribution from a crazy MAGA member if they aren't always totally loyal and show some break from Trump. I feel like maybe each individual in all those bodies has received a significant personal payout. Under the table, in the backroom. Sworn to secrecy about it. But I don't know, of course, if that has happened. Do you think he, they -- through their super wealthy supporters -- would have gone that far to pay off, handsomely, all of these people to ensure their absolute loyalty? I mean nothing talks, works like money....

This article really sums up the 'how and why' so many millions of our fellow citizens fell for the cult. When tRump spouted that 'when they come for me, they're also coming for you' line equating his fate to that of the nation and supporters I felt a cold chill in my spine.

IT really is happening here. We're no better than the Germans of the 20s and 30s who enabled Hitler's rise to power.

One small way to break the cycle of trauma > hyper vigilance > repeat … might be to adopt a hobby. Not something you do only online, although finding/learning/supporting a new hobby might need some online engagement. Find something you enjoy doing that keeps you away from sinking into the couch and disappearing into the “bad stuff” every day. There is still time and room for fun and creativity.

I take to the forest and mountains to partially recover or more likely not to totally freak out.

There is a nature center less than a mile from where I live. It's where I (and a lot of local people) go to recharge.
