Tyrants throughout history have used religion as a justification for butchery. This has gone on since the beginning of time. Jerusalem is the "holiest" place for Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Instead of recognizing that all can share it, they'd rather attempt to annihilate each other.
I think that it would be helpful for you to consider this: religions are man-made. They are dangerous and destructive. People who follow the teachings of Christ without following an organized religion are few and far between, but we exist.
I think most in the United States are practicing a very different thing than Biblical Christianity. They rely on GOP preachers espousing Republican talking points from the pulpit to guide their thoughts. They are authoritarian personalities who need a strong man to tell them what to believe.
I don't fault you for calling out how dangerous these people are. It needs to be done. Just not everyone who is a believer is a whacko or a believer in extremists ideology.
True faith comes from a relationship with God. I know you are not a believer. I think that your honesty is a big plus. Please continue to call out these dangerous "Christian" fundamentalists.

Some journalist needs to talk to the people at the ex-gay ministry he worked with that blew up. They all figured out it was a homophobic abuse filled scam. There’s a Mike Johnson story there.
I think it is a shame that you feel the need to lump all Christians in with the crazy, violent fundamentalists. If you carefully review history, you will find some of the finest minds and the most loving hearts in service to mankind among those that call themselves Christian. I think you can do better and be a little more nuanced than what you wrote above. Take a little more time to develop your thoughts.
