Do we understand the context of his 'weird' response? Plausibly, he'd opt for another interpretation of his statement if confronted, just as he often leaves vaguish comments open to interpretation like this,... despite certain groups hearing his dog whistles as intended. I'm not trying to dismiss musk as being covertly racist/antisemitic in the wide open.
It's a typical shady modus operandi. Any tweets these fash influencers comment on, get tons more views which is the point, especially Musk with his millions of followers . The vagueness of the comment offers plausible deniability. "All I said was its weird." "I said YOU decide." It's all sleight-of-mind. It's awful how it works.
