Of all the media I consume, you are the most insightful. Scapegoating immigrants is just a convenient stepping stone to build the infrastructure needed to achieve their real objectives. They want to destroy liberal democracy and all political opposition. ICE is their Gestapo. The midterms are their demise, and they know it. They are going to dial it up to 11.

You say “They know it. We know it. They know we know it. Yet the show must go on.” I read that, got am chilled to the bone. But here’s the deal: hardly any of us really DO know it. I’ve been reading you and understanding things more for months. Yet every time I see Karolyn’s Leavitt, I agonize, “How can she lie like that?” - and expect, eventually, people will have enough of that lying. I am realizing now how impossibly hard it is to take in— when things keep looking “normal” — that we have on dave been invaded. WE (general public) keeps seeing her as a Press Secretary— and part of us keeps expecting her to lapse back into some normal version of that role—but she’s actually just a loyal foot soldier dressed up like a press secretary.

My point: if these Christian Nationalists had just invaded, yelling “Women and blacks no more rights!” , we would have fought back.

Everyone needs to understand what you, Jim Stewartson, saying. Because as far as I can tell, everyone else out there is still talking from the old paradigm. Instead of being inside a Comic Book.

Interesting, I have exactly the opposite sense, that everyday Americans are deeply disturbed by what is happening, and are doing pretty well getting the truth. The amount of information blackout people are feeling is proportional to their age, with Gen Z extremely online, and learning the developements of every day as soon as they happen.

Exactly right. The majority of Americans have no idea about any of this. As long as they’re not hurting, things are okay by them. Ignorance abounds. It’s terrifying.

I think he is a Nazi and worse. There isn’t anything we have seen so far from a person like him who wants to take over a country like ours and turn it into a slave/master country for his and his special friend’s benefit and screw everyone else. More like Caligula or Nero or the like.

From what I'm reading and hearing since the shutdown that Republicans are trying their damnedest to blame on the democrats for the shut down. Even though they don't actually need any democrat vote to open it! Is that they are heading into proclaiming Martial Law. Is that the end? Is that when tanks and armed soldiers roam the streets enforcing curfews? Is that when you can get stopped on the street and have to produce papers to say that not only are you a citizen but that your are also a Nazi, sorry a MAGA! People should not wait. The trump admin especially Miller knows that there is a protest planned for 18th. They know it's going to be THE Big One. So I believe they will be working hard to get Martial Law passed before that. It could be by talking about a Venezuelan invasion, or because judges aren't allowing them to send troops to Blue cities. Something has to happen before the 18th so that they can essentially say protest is banned and have a bloodbath if you do protest. So we need people to prepare for what happens then. People need to know what rights they have now. The internet could be cut off at that time. There will be no information in or out. Please publish the options for Americans. I don't live in your country but I know the signs of fascism. Miller is in a hurry, trump is in a hurry. The administration is hanging by a thread. They know they are in trouble. This desperation will be passed on to their base who are willing to believe anything these idiots say. Judges being threatened is just the first phase. The law is what they say it is folks!

I've been reading with interest the comments of our foreign friends and allies, and there is a big difference between how we view our democracy, and how you all view yours. Most Americans have been taught from a young age that the power to self-govern, and our democracy, belong to the people. Any random person can cheat, bribe, or lie their way into the WH, but no matter what they do, they don't have the power to declare "Democracy is now over in the US". As long as the American people exist, democracy will never be over in the US. The law most definitely is not what any one person says it is. Bloodbath? That would be a very dangerous undertaking for a small force like ICE now is. No matter how much money they throw at it, ICE/Gestapo and their white supremacist militia minions will never be even a tiny fraction of the people of the US, and their firearms will never outgun the huge amount of firearms in the hands of the people. The US Military will not follow illegal orders to attack citizens, and the National Guard would act to control ICE/Gestapo/neoNazi attacks on American protesters in a "bloodbath" scenario. The Govenor of Oregon made a statement to that effect just yesterday. Americans all know that the regime wants violence to break out so they can declare martial law, and everyone recognizes the need to prevent that. We're going to get to the midterms, take back Congress, and thwart the Republican agenda at every turn until then. Whatever else it takes, protests, strikes, we will do, when we need to do it, to restore a functioning federal government. This is a scary time for many, but the vibe I'm getting from my fellow citizens is anger, not fear.

Thanks for this Yankee. Yet I don't feel you DO have a democracy that doesn't need improvement, which is why it's so easy to challenge it. America has built it's foundations on bigotry and racism. Even if you do overthrow trump it doesn't mean you are going to then be a kinder nation to anybody that isn't white. Also preferably white and rich! Your "functioning" government never even bothered to correct those essential differences. That is why trump was able to get a toehold into peoples bias and exploit it. If the Dems take over again and I hope they do because even with their flaws they are still the best bet, I'm not sure it will save you! You will never ever admit that that land you live in was stolen, you will never ever admit that you are ALL immigrants! These blind corners will haunt you until you face up to them. MAGA is YOU in smaller or larger amounts it's still who you are. But hey if you want to ignore that fact for the next 250 years have at it. Maybe you need to be brought down a peg or two to teach you that a "democracy" means equality for ALL.

All the criticisms you state apply to at least some Americans, and the flaws in our democracy ebb and flow. It's a work always in progress. Did you know that in a lot of places in the US, people acknowledge the indigenous ancestors of the land they’re on, before meetings, instead of reciting the Pledge of Allegiance? This is the kind of thing that inspires far right white supremacists and Christian Nationlists to want to destroy democracy and impose thought police on everyone. They hate it when people tell the truth that the far right wants to whitewash. These cultural conflicts are in our faces all the time, and it’s a complicated nation, because America literally IS the whole world. There is at least someone from every place on earth here, and many of them have been here for a long time, and have a lot of skin in the game. It’s a wonder that it ever functioned at all. But it’s cool that we hammer everything out through democratic processes, not in an easy way, like a homgeneous society would, but in a very, very contentious way. It’s cool that despite our constant strife and disagreements, Americans can snap together and act as one. But love it or hate it, remember, America is YOU, and your neighbors, and your enemies, and your neighbors' enemies, all rolled up into one nation.

I would argue that Americans are in the last stages of purging the Lost Cause ideology. The remnants of the slave empire rose up again in the 1920s, after the South recovered from the destruction of the Civil War. They lost political control of the South in the 1960s, during the Civil Rights era, but managed to retake parts of the South beginning in the Reagan years, in the 1980s. Due to large numbers of Americans relocating to Southern states, the political landscape in the South has become more diverse and politically mixed, so they've been waging an asymmetric battle for political control, nominally mainstream "conservatism" with hidden agendas of white supremacy and Christian dominion ideology. They took over the Republican Party, purged the actual conservatives, and aligned behind Trump, a New York mobster, in a last ditch effort, really an act of desperation, to find someone depraved, racist, and criminal enough who could win elections and be fine with breaking modern America, destroying the federal institutions that protect civil rights, the DoJ, the FBI, and the Supreme Court, and imposing their ancient slave empire values on Americans. On a good day, the Lost Cause adherents are about 15-17% of the electorate; a small group whose cultural beliefs flow from the antebellum South, where a tiny minority of whites controlled a majority of enslaved people through depraved acts of terror and violence. In their delusion and arrogance, they believe they can recruit enough psychopaths to do the dirty work, like Stephen Miller, just as they did in the past, and create enough fear and commit enough acts of terror, that mainstream Americans will stand down and accept their control. At this point in the narrative, I always burst out laughing. First, depending on a notorious liar and grifter, like Trump, is not going to go well. He's a New Yorker, and doesn't give a shit about restoring the lost glory of the slave empire, although he's defintiely a racist and misogynist. He's an atheist, and has been caught on video talking about how nutty he thinks the Christian dominionists are, saying things like, "they really believe this stuff." Second, Trump has deliberately destroyed the economy, just out of pure spite and vengeance, with the result that the Republican Party has now shot itself in the head, politically speaking. The bottom line is that the majority of Americans now despise the Republicans as traitors. Pollsters are amazed at the numbers they're seeing, which show that Trump has lower support than any other President in American history. This is notable because there have been some truly insane and criminal Presidents in American history, particularly in the corrupt Gilded Age era. The subtitle for the Republican Party should be "the party that did more to unite Americans behind a single cause than anything since WWII." The Republicans have spent too much time in their own information bubble, driven out the smartest people in the party who could've stopped the suicide cult they've become, and really believed their own propaganda; that white Americans would support them. The Republican Party is on the path to becoming a footnote in American history books, and their elected officials are, no doubt, busy hiring lawyers and preparing their offshore accounts and bolt holes abroad.

I hear what you're saying Yankee. Yet if those suffering from a delusion that they can have it all must also know that they are far from the majority. People who chart a course to their detriment because they don't know HOW to change it will be THEIR own worst enemy. I live in hope that they are too stupid to realise that fact. There's one thing that you haven't taken into account though. The sale of TiKTok to Ellison and Murdock. They are not completely racist and other "ists" I don't think. They will now be changing the followers on this media platform to follow the MAGA theme. This will give them more power and more money. It'll start gradually and move ever faster to seal their deal. trump, of course doesn't care. At this point he just wants more money so that he can call it quits and move on. Of course when you're in a country that has so depraved their political system that the downfall is inevitable then the Ellisons, Murdock's and other tech oligarchs will have a new generation of to build on. Without those pesky politicians getting in their way. They paid trump to win for their own reasons. The Millers and the Vought, the Vance's, the Thiel's will help them until they don't need them anymore. It's a battle of the Billions at this point. Ideology simply doesn't mean anything to them, it's the "medium is the message" time now. America is becoming an isolationist country. Which will make it easy to control. All their commodities will have to be purchased on the black market where it will cost $100 for a loaf of bread because they can't get the workers or the ingredients in country. So far though the district courts are upholding their democratic responsibilities, but once it gets to the SCOTUS it's a toss-up as to wether they will obey or not. I'm certain trump will fight everything you throw at him by appealing. It's in his nature. Thanks for your analysis Yankee, I found it very thought provoking.

Very interesting and insightful piece. Just what I needed before going to bed haha!

It is fabulous that the tech bros are nervous. Say what you will; they are evil and frankly dumb as rocks in most respects, but are at times able to sense what is going on outside of their billionaire bubble.

The project of the far right has been underway for decades. Yarvin accurately sees this. And on this he and I agree. The emergence of Trump has brought things to a head, and Jim is right in noting the accelerationist bent of Miller in recent days. (I am almost tempted to leave Trump out of this as his speech and physical appearance are so far gone; the sight of him before the generals was truly an embarrassment more than a show of strength).

The cat was let out of the bag today by a reporter who asked Trump if he was contemplating the Insurrection Act. He mumbled some shit , in essence saying yes. It appears to me that the administration is playing it by ear, day to day, minute by minute it almost seems.

What will be the “red line” that finally blows things up? The resistance has been for the most part restrained. I’m sure the regime expected us to cast the first stone, as it were.

So—a false flag is not out of the question. It’s been done before.

Please forgive me for rambling on, and thanks to Jim for everything. And Godspeed on Friday in court. Is there any way we can follow the proceedings in real time? Good night all
