*It no longer represents life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.*
In reality, though, it never did. Not for everyone. The rest of us have simply labored under the illusion of such lofty and noble ideals. American history is horrific. We've been fed a steady diet of sanitized, polished narrative over decades. Patriotism, nationalism, individualism - propaganda that was sold to us to disguise our complete capture by capitalism and to get our boys to sell their bodies and minds to the military industrial complex to fight their wars.
I read recently that a lot of the men fighting in WWI resisted their mission to kill enemy combatants. So the machine fired itself up for WWII, enlisting Walt Disney for a pro-war campaign promoting the idea of fighting for your country as the most noble of sacrifices, for example.
Freedom is a concept that has been marketed, packaged and sold wholesale to Americans. We've never truly been free from oppression. Most of us, anyway. I'm now of the opinion that our collapse has always been inevitable to some large extent. We have never been the good guys. When they stripped away the personal rights we thought we had, baring the brutal set, is when I learned that it's all ever been stage dressing. That strangely gives me peace though. At least now I can name the truth and accept who we really are.
Wow! This is, perhaps, the most profoundly insightful and meaningful chapter in your writing that I have read. Just halfway through, I was visualizing the desecrated white house, Trump banners hanging in D.C., the monstrous arch, the Gulf of America, Hegseth's snarl, and tattoos, and everything you went on to describe. Then I saw Trump, his head bowed, as his religious leaders laid their blasphemous hands on his lecherous body.
Symbols of institutions come after the fact of the institutions. Abstractly, institutions captured are not failed necessarily but can come back after either 1-survival or 2-fighting off the captor. It’s just what I see. You make good points although there will be Lady Liberty in the harbor and the rest. However if we do not win generally, just burn it. All of it. None should survive to allow them to use as false truths to pretended we have become a failed democracy.
I can't believe Hegseth's zealotry and his blind obedience to the orange menace. What a weak and pathetic Senate confirmed man. Every GOP Senator needs to wear that decision.
Can you believe the three subjects in your Headline today ??!😲 I know I'm living in a Alternate Universe, with a phyco in charge. Good article, Jim. TGIF to you and your readers, have a good weekend, and will reStack ASAP 💯👍

Amazing work, Jim.
