Obvious Schmuck Bait

Greetings Jim:

I tend to prepare far ahead of any activity and commitment. If, for example, I have a doctor’s appointment at 12:30 PM, I will be going to the office at least a half hour before the scheduled appointment. This needs to be looked at in an analogous way when deciding on budgetary and appropriations funding. Funding for the US Government needs to be decided and approved well before the end of the fiscal year, which begins on October 1 and ends on September 30 in the following year. Unfortunately, I cannot remember a recent budget and appropriations bill that was approved section by section in recent years. Instead, we must do nothing until the very last day Congress would rather default on the nation’s debt and plunge into bankruptcy. Only by the threat of shutting down does a bill get passed. Usually that is a CR, or continuing resolution which merely kicks the can down the road. Equally bad is a just before the Congress adjourns sine dine Omnibus appropriations bill. A catch all bill which only lasts less than a year and is the last gap measure to pass something to fund the Government.

I can remember being a 15-year-old in 1998 and hearing about the passing of an Omnibus bill to fund the government through the end of FY 1999. At that time, an Omnibus bill was considered a failure in funding a government and a failure in government itself. No surprise, given the Republican majorities in both houses of Congress and their inability to negotiate with President Bill Clinton that year. Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) memorably decried the Omnibus bill, albeit voting for it due to its approval by the Appropriations Committee for which Sen. Byrd was the Chairman. To this day, I remember his words: “do I know what is in the bill? (laughter), No! I do not know what is in the bill, only God knows!” I miss Sen. Byrd, who in death has had his reputation besmirched and gutted by more vulgar “leaders. "Were he alive today, I doubt he would have even voted for this current bill. Yet, why is that this inaction until the last minute, which I have taken to call under recent NFL chicanery the Tom Brady ass pull, something we are supposed to like? Well, to paraphrase the still alive yet well missed Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), one party is willing to stay at the Capitol and effectively live there to pass bills; yet another is only interested in the rewards. You can guess which party is which. For the next year or 2, the fated Republican House (which need not have been a majority) has the following plans for appropriations funding and budgets: zero. Nothing. Zip Doo Dah. Just more commitments to investigating Democrats and making mountains out of little insect colonies. A waste.

The Senate, fortunately, is still with a Democratic majority albeit with three Independent Democrats included of differing ideals. It is through an increase in the numbers. With that in mind, it is important to present post haste or within a month or so a budget and appropriations package to be approved and passed before October 1, 2023. Preferably by March or April, and funding continuing through 2024 at least. I will be drafting a budget as early as now. Force the GQP to participate in government by periodically voting for these bills on a continuous basis; say one appropriation bill a week per subcommittee area. In short, the time to plan and not be cramming is upon us. Our opponents win when an Omnibus spending bill is passed. And many of us are still dumbfounded when it is ourselves who get the blame. We can and must end this madness.

As you know, I am sending this email to you during the week. Rest assured; Sunday night drops will resume shortly. I do express my apologies for this tardiness.

Listen to me. Wealth is the only reality. And the only way to obtain wealth is to take it away from somebody else. Wake up, Blake! You may not be tranquilized any longer, but you are still dreaming. - Paul Darrow, Blake’s 7.

I’m fucking sick of it too. I’m hopeful Elon learns a painful financial lesson and takes it on the chin even far worse when we get our first terrorist attack obviously from Twitter radicalization. These fucks do respond to financial incentives. Not sure any of us can compete with Thiel or the Saudis financially of course... but Thiel and the Saudis don’t have such staggering wealth and power if decent people refuse to do business with fascists and murderous emperors. So keep exposing this bullshit, thank you.
