My guess is that rural areas and small towns vote differently from urban areas in Europe like in the US. City dwellers need to better understand that most of middle Americaans in the countryside and small towns generally have different experiences and lifestyles and are more traditional than typical city dwellers. Also, generally, they are not benefitting from the economic opportunities that many educated folks in cities have. ALSO, They tend to be more involved with religion, particularly of the fundamentalist bent, which makes them more susceptible to certain kinds of" traditional values"-oriented propaganda and psy-ops.

Just Tweeted the same, over 40% had no problem with choosing a Fascist leader, a Putin puppet. And indeed it is a big threat to our democratic society as a whole. UN, EU, NATO, G7 etcetc. Not to mention the humanitarian crisis for refugees. This was a narrow escape and our politicians en media need to that action to prevent this from happening again.

In our little country (Netherlands), the alt-right candidate was so marginalised and ridiculed in the press that he lost almost all seats in the house. Media, messaging and targeting really help.

I fully support Don Winslow in trying to give the Dems messaging more punch. Next step is getting the media and targeting right.

Wait, aren't they going to say the election was stolen in the greatest election fraud of all time? I'm surprised they aren't using the entire lying Trump fascist playbook.

Thoughts: We need a real opposition party (ies?). What we have now, both ends of the horseshoe, is not viable. Scary AF.

Marine LP’s party has outside help. The same networks that installed trump.

We need laws/ social media. Trolls have been trying to dissuade left-leaning voters from voting. 28% of abstention is a lot for a presidential election here.

But: the last French President to be re-elected was Putin’s good friend Jacques Chirac 20 years ago. Macron didn’t really campaign (he’s really bad at it anyway), and yet he won… that’s good.

The long-term way to truly defeat fascism *must* involve improving child-rearing practices. We must UP nurture of small children, 0-3 leveraged hugely in building Right brain skills: emotional self-regulation, internal locus of control, relational ability, self-trust.

Many Americans are very damaged, angry, and easy to manipulate due to lack of species specific care. "Cry it out," putting weeks-old babies in full time day care, abusive or absent parents. We need sturdier citizens.
