Maybe related, but not the same general named Gerasimov. The one above is Valery Gerasimov (still alive unfortunately). The one killed is Vitaly. Causing confusion.
It’s not him, sadly. It’s Vitaly, who was in charge of the invasion of Crimea, not Valery. Olga Lautman tweeted yesterday “ Just to clear something up. This is NOT Valery Gerasimov who is the chief of general staff of armed forces,” and then “He is reportedly the nephew though.”
I also thought it was him. It’s still a very big deal, the name Gerasimov carries a lot of weight.
