Great post, Jim. I learned a number of things from it. Also, the "Old Believers" in the Russian Orthodox tradition remind me very much of the "Traditionalist" Catholics, who hate everything introduced with Vatican II brought by the Ecumenical Council and Pope John XXIII. Similar thinking, common cause?
That video is some bizarre shit. I mean Aleister Crowley wasn't exactly a traditionalist, was he? Crowley's Thelema is the ultimate left-hand path ideology, no? Of course, rightist elites are often guilty of believing rules are for the unwashed masses and not themselves. They prescribe a traditional right-hand path religion for the masses, but they themselves are basically Satanists.
Pretty ironic that Flynn/s sedition roadshow is now, barely covertly, promoting the ideas of this Satanist while pretending to be all about some kind of Christian Great Awakening.
As a philosophical naturalist I look at morality as a sentient social evolutionary imperative and I don't have a dog in any theological fight. I only have a very layman's sort of understanding of all that esoteric stuff, so forgive me if I've got it wrong. However I'm a strong proponent of at least the silver rule and believe we are all morally obliged to at least avoid harming others w/o justification, and "I felt like it" or even "it's in accord with my true will" can't be a justification for doing harm IMO. Self defense can be though, so I'm not a pacifist. Violence should be a last resort, but can be justified.
Zarina wrote a new profile for Bywire. If he dies... well. Markov is the guy who said that Litvinenko wasn’t killed by Russia, so he’s not necessarily telling the truth.
"To stay in power, Putin needs an enemy. Dugin delivers the narrative of struggle. When the USSR fell and took communism vs imperialism antagonism with it, the void quickly filled with “the great conflict of nations.” The result is the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine".
I found this quote at the end of Zarina's article explanatory as to Putin's "reasoning" for invading Ukraine. Authoritarians always need an enemy to justify their horrific crimes against humanity which is collectively labeled "War". Authoritarian Rule in this case is a combination of Nazism and Bolshevism. Nazibols.
Looking up Markov...thank you Marie. And thank you for the link.
