Why Did the White House Post a Double-Headed Eagle?
Surely it’s a coincidence that it’s the symbol of the Russian Empire, the Russian Federation, and Putin.
The official account of the White House is just propaganda now. This is no surprise but it’s far more transgressive than I expected. I imagined they would have a veneer of official-ness, but quite the contrary, it’s basically a 4chan account. You know, based, as the kids say.
One post caught my eye. After posting a picture of himself as the actual pope, Trump posted this yesterday on May 4th which is, if you are not in the know, a sacred day for Star Wars fans.
Everything about this on the surface is a disgrace, a juvenile, narcissistic attempt to abuse a cultural icon for purposes of celebrating cruelty and scapegoating others. However, given the source, it’s worth looking at the symbolism.
First of all, the lightsaber is red and therefore Sith, the bad guys, the Dark Side of the Force. The President of the United States is aligning himself with Darth Vader. Okayyy.
Needless to say, Elon Musk also identifies with evil.
Anyway, the next most prominent feature is the double eagle which has a specific historical and cultural heritage. Now this could be just some AI-generated image, right? Sure, let’s leave that open as a possibility. Nevertheless, it’s worth learning what it represents.
You may be shocked to learn that it was first introduced in the Byzantine Empire and became the coat of arms for the Russian Empire, and the Russian Federation. It is also “the most recognizable symbol of Orthodoxy today (other than the cross).”
It is also the Presidential Standard of Russia.
Now, in isolation you could dismiss it as a coincidence, but note that Trump just changed May 8th to “Victory in WWII Day” which is not when the United States won WWII. That’s when Russia declared Victory in Europe and when Putin celebrates “Victory Day” in Moscow.
Is this just some kid at a computer in the White House coming up with dank memes that happen to share a lot of features with Putin’s primary symbolic representation?
Who the hell knows? And that’s the real problem, isn’t it?
